Oregon House Leaders To Discuss Civility Across Partisan Lines Oct. 7 |
NEWBERG, OR – In an era of deep political division, heated rhetoric and rising political violence, George Fox University will host Oregon House Majority Leader Ben Bowman (D-Tigard) and Minority Leader Christine Drazan (R-Canby) for a timely public conversation on the state of civility in politics.
The event will take place on the university’s Newberg campus on Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Hoover Academic Building, Room 105. It is free and open to the public.
The conversation will provide a unique opportunity to hear directly from two of the state’s most influential legislative leaders about the challenges of legislating across the aisle. The discussion will focus on their experiences, whether a more respectful and productive political discourse is possible, and how to find a better path forward for all Oregonians.
Bowman was elected to the legislature in 2022, representing House District 25. He previously served as chair of the Tigard-Tualatin School Board and holds degrees from the University of Oregon and Stanford University. Drazan is an alumna of George Fox University and represents House District 51. She previously served as house republican leader and was the Republican nominee for governor in 2022.

Living in the Heart of Oregon's Amazing Wine Country |
By Newberg News
Tucked into the rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, Newberg has become synonymous with Oregon’s flourishing wine industry. Known as the gateway to Oregon wine country, this small city in Yamhill County has grown into a global destination that welcomes millions of visitors each year.
For wine aficionados, Newberg offers more than just a taste of Oregon—it offers the beating heart of a region now recognized as one of the premier wine destinations in the world.
Oregon’s wine story is often traced back to the pioneers who saw the valley’s climate and soil as a perfect match for varietals like Pinot Noir. Newberg and its surrounding areas, including Dundee and the Chehalem Mountains, quickly became home to family-run vineyards that set the standard for the state’s wine reputation.
Today, those once-humble wineries are joined by more than 700 across the valley, many of them clustered just minutes from downtown Newberg.
Wine lovers travel from across the globe to explore what makes Newberg unique. The secret lies in terroir: the region’s cool climate, volcanic and sedimentary soils, and long growing season produce wines of remarkable depth and complexity.
Pinot Noir reigns supreme here, but the region is also celebrated for Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and an increasing variety of experimental blends. International recognition has followed, with critics consistently ranking Oregon wines among the best in the world.
Visitors who come for the wine quickly discover that Newberg itself is a vibrant hub of culture, food, and hospitality.

Here are highlights of Oregon’s recreational marijuana laws that every consumer should know:
1. Legal Age– You must be 21 or older to buy, possess, or use recreational marijuana in Oregon.
2. Purchase & Possession Limits – Adults can purchase and possess up to:
3. Consumption Rules – Marijuana use is only legal on private property. It is illegal to consume in public places, including parks, sidewalks, bars, and restaurants.

6. Don't try to mail recreational marijuana – Mailing marijuana is a federal crime in the United States, regardless of whether it is legal in the states of origin or destination. This applies to all shipping services, including the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), FedEx, and UPS, as they all comply with federal law.
⚠️ Laws can shift over time (especially regarding local restrictions, delivery services, and cannabis lounges), so it’s smart to double-check the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) website before making purchases.
